Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Urban Development
To avoid the worst impacts of climate change and to strengthen urban resilience, development activities need to follow low carbon and climate resilient pathways, promoting, for example, energy efficiency. This is especially the case in fast-growing cities across the world, where already vulnerable populations are also impacted by air pollution and poor building quality. The SDC is engaged in the development of diverse technologies, solutions and initiatives aimed at promoting healthy environments and resilient livelihoods, in particular amongst poorer urban communities.

The SDC’s Engagement for Clean Air for All
The SDC supports partners around the world in tackling climate change and in improving air quality while reducing poverty, improving health and protecting the environment.
Break down the dome – air pollutant source apportionment for clean air in Chinese cities
Chinese and Swiss research institutes are partnering in an SDC-funded project on air pollutant source apportionment to improve air quality in 6 Chinese cities.
Decarbonizing the building sector – 10 key measures
This report highlights a set of essential measures and successful examples for incorporating building activities in decarbonization efforts for governments to include in their NDCs.
Digitalization of the built environment: Towards a more sustainable construction sector
Digitalization opens up new opportunities to contribute to the achievement of the Paris Agreement targets and the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDC-supported Climate Ledger Initiative (CLI) is helping to achieve the Agreement’s climate targets using digital ledger technologies such as blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies. These offer huge potential for climate action.
