Transitioning to low-carbon energy is vital, yet its gendered impacts remain overlooked. Women in Nigeria’s Agro-allied sector, who form 60–80% of the workforce, face climate-related challenges that threaten their livelihoods. Despite their key role, energy policies fail to address their specific needs. Our research explores how renewable energy transitions impact women in sub-Saharan Africa.
We seek participants for 60 face-to-face interviews with women in Nigeria’s Agro-allied industry, including those engaged in farming, poultry, fishery, and related businesses.
Interviews will be conducted both online (via video or audio platforms) and in person at participants’ workplaces or business locations. Each interview will last approximately 40–60 minutes. Ethical approval is secured, and all responses will remain anonymous. Informed consent will be obtained from all participants, ensuring confidentiality and voluntary participation.
The questions will focus on women’s perspectives on climate change and its impact on their personal and business lives. They will also explore energy use within their businesses, challenges in accessing modern energy sources, and the feasibility of adopting renewable energy solutions. The interview will cover key themes such as the economic and social implications of energy transitions, barriers to renewable energy adoption, and strategies for a more inclusive and equitable energy transition. Findings will inform policy through conferences and journal publications.
