Join Climares, a groundbreaking research project that supports the climate resilience of at-risk populations in five African countries. They we are looking for 2 PhD candidates who will work with either smallholders or refugees and other stakeholders using innovative, participatory research methods.
If successful, the applicant s will receive a joint/dual degree with Wageningen University, The Netherlands [PhD A – smallholders] or Erasmus University Rotterdam [PhD B- refugees ] .
📌 Key Details:
✅ Location: Makerere University, Uganda (with collaboration across European and African institutions)
✅ Duration: Initially for 1 year (fully funded), extended, conditional upon good performance, to a maximum of five years, on a full-time basis. Expected start date: 1 July/August 2025.
✅ Eligibility: Master’s degree in agriculture, environmental science, climate studies, or a related field; research experience in climate change, food security, or water management preferred
✅ Application Deadline: 25 March, 2025
💼 Responsibilities:
- Conduct field-based research on climate-smart agricultural practices
- Analyze the impact of climate change on food security in Uganda
- Collaborate with European and African research institutions
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
