Summary

Greece’s National Adaptation Strategy (NAS), adopted in 2016, aims to strengthen the country’s resilience to climate change and its impacts. Among its five key objectives, the Greek NAS aims to support a better-informed short-term and long-term decision-making process regarding adaptation (Objective 1) and enhance the adaptive capacity of the Greek society through awareness-raising actions (Objective 5). The Greek Climate Change Adaptation (GCCA) Hub is an important component of the National Adaptation Observatory, as outlined in the National Climate Law (4936/2022) – playing a vital role in achieving the two abovementioned objectives of the NAS.

The Hub intends to:

  • Provide tools and resources to assist decision-makers at different levels and sectors in various steps of the adaptation policy cycle. It will enable decision-makers and key adaptation stakeholders to assess the impacts of climate change both regionally and locally, and plan appropriate actions and adaptation measures.
  • Raise awareness among different target groups on adaptation, including citizens, thus, improve the level of public awareness regarding climate change impacts and adaptation actions in Greece
  • Promote the sharing of good practice among adaptation stakeholders.

The Greek Climate Change Adaptation Hub plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of adaptation policy and in raising awareness and momentum for adaptation action. It is expected to make a substantial contribution to the implementation of the National Adaptation Strategy. The Hub further supports the wide and public communication on the NAS and the RAAPs, enhancing transparency in policy making and implementation. Through the links to the EU Climate-Adapt platform provided by the Greek Climate Change Adaptation Hub, the promotion and dissemination of the European platform in Greece will also be achieved.

Host Organisation: The Greek Climate Change Adaptation (GCCA) Hub has been developed within the framework of the integrated project “LIFE-IP AdaptInGR” by the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) of Greece.
