Strengthening Climate Adaptation Planning through Customised Learning Approaches

Overall project background
The project aims to support the planning of locally relevant climate adaptation programmes and projects by providing a combination of face-to-face and testing of electronic (off / online) learning opportunities that are responsive to the specific needs of the participant group and to allow the participant group to pass their training on to others. A specific goal was to explore approaches for continued learning following the training. The long term aim is to build capacity and expertise in climate adaptation planning at the sub-national level through collaboration with local partners.
Project approach
The approach will be to develop effective learning tools and structured training modules, that can be used either independently of the producers of the material or in a training setting based on a training needs assessment that will be conducted with the local partners in order to design customised learning approaches and activities. The face-to-face training may be supported through the development of new modules and post workshop webinars, something that has not been tried before by SEI Oxford and weADAPT partners, and has been requested in previous training settings as a way to ensure the sustainability of the network of participants and the support or guidance provided on the applicability of tools. Experience in analysing the specific users of information and tools in weADAPT.org will be used to tailor the learning experience to the user group participating in the training. Participants could be practitioners operating in a particular field [e.g. disaster risk reduction (DRR), community development, natural resource management (NRM) , etc.], authorities, researchers or technicians operating at the sub-national level.
The training was delivered by SEI Oxford and SEI Asia Centres, working in collaboration with the Santiri Foundation (Lombok) and Silliman University (Dumaguete). Follow up material to support participants after the training will be delivered via weADAPT. Support for registering and using weADAPT effectively was discussed during a webinar, but to re-enforce that learning please use the Guidance pages. Presentations and exercises from the workshops are available here.
