Edwin Adenya
Edwin Aldrin Adenya is a Land and Water Management Consultant with over 15 years field experience; working with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of the United Nations (UNESCO). His background training is in Agricultural Education and Extension. His post graduate training includes Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Water Exploration (WATEX) tools and the Groundwater Navigation and Exploration System (GENS), Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Development and Emergencies, Mapping for Manual drilling of boreholes using geology, topography, soil permeability and borehole logs.
Mr. Adenya is a certified Microsoft Professional having specialised in User support and Application programming. In addition, he is a certified Earth Sciences Research Institute (ESRI) – Geographical Information Systems (GIS) professional; having participated in water points mapping for East and Southern Africa. He contributed to the development and pilot testing of the Fall Armyworm Management and Early Warning Systems (FAMEWS) in Africa. He holds a number of other certified competence based trainings; these include but not limited to; HIV and AIDS management in the Workplace, Gender and United Nations Coherence, Management of Learning Program (MOLP), United Nations Programmes, Policies and Procedures (PPP), Team building, Decision-making and Leadership styles. He has participated in both humanitarian and resilience building projects in Africa. He is an accomplished community trainer for the Farmers/Pastoral Field School methodology the development of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning toolkits.
Mr. Adenya is the founder of the Small Scale Drillers Association of Kenya, a civil society organization promoting the use of low cost drilling and rainwater harvesting to increase communal water access; where he is currently serving as the Secretary – General. He has been appointed by Radar Technologies International as the Kenya Country Representative; having successfully supervised the exploration of underground aquifers in Turkana, Kenya. Mr. Adenya is affiliated to the following professional organizations; the Kenya Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (KEFAAS), the Africa Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) / Skat Foundation, Kenya Water Industry Association (KWIA), Information Advisory and Resource Centre (IARC) and the Global Farmers Field Schools Resource Network (GFFSRN).
Mr. Adenya has published peer reviewed papers with the Water Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) of Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, Communication for Development (C4D) and various thematic topics in the media. He has contributed greatly to various publications with FAO, UNICEF and RWSN. Mr. Adenya has participated in the development and implementation of various bankable proposals in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and South Sudan. Some of the notable funders include the World Bank, USAID, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Embassy of Ireland, Danish Embassy, the Royal Netherlands Kingdom, Adaptation fund (AF) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
He is a member of the technical advisory team for MkulimaYoung (www.mkulimayoung.com), Turmeric Kenya and M-Advisory Africa (http://madvisoryafrica.com ). He is currently the Knowledge Management Consultant with the Eastern Africa Field Schools Hub www.eafieldschools.net that is hosted by the Africa Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services.
