Dr. Rabieahtul Abu Bakar, has more than 14 years’ experience in Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM). She first embarked on Multi-Hazard Disaster Risk Management studies in ITC the Netherlands in 2009 with European platform. In 2020, she graduated in Geological Hazards for her PhD from The National University of Malaysia (UKM-SEADPRi-Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiatives). Her background was in Geomatics Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for both Bachelor and MSc which focuses on GNSS for geodynamic studies.
She was involved with mega projects from SMART tunnelling, road building GAMUDA Sdn. Bhd., YTL Corporation to off-shore pillar monitoring with Taisei Corporation Malaysia. Handles geospatial mapping with advance technology, provided training and pitched for market-breaking sales. Personal interest is in geodynamic and seismotectonic research towards disaster risk reduction conforming to SFDRR, COP, NUA, and CCA. She is a member of IEEE women in engineering, Consultants Network and YP IEEE Student for science, technology and innovations, evidence-based decision making.
During her PhD journey, she was involved with much LiDAR, iFSAR analysis to understand the geological mechanism land formation for earthquake prone areas. But, further in DRRM she brought the science into action by providing awareness, evacuation routes, hazard maps and solutions to the community exposed to earthquake in Kundasang, Sabah.
She was also the recipient of my brain/my PhD scholarship by KPT2015 & FRGS grant worth RM108k in 2014-2016, UKM. Utilizing advanced geospatial technology, for geological mapping in the understanding geological hazard in Malaysia. She is also a professional member to MBOT, IGRSM & IEEE Malaysia section, WIE, Consultants Network.
