Spirit of Football (SOF) https://spiritoffootball.com/, is a prize winning, Non-Profit Organisation based in the UK, Germany, and Brazil, that supports and brings together people and communities. It was founded in 2002 and focuses on three areas of support:
1. National Education Programmes, in universities, schools and community centres for displaced people, through targeted educational training curricular, including climate emergency awareness.
2. International Humanitarian Programmes (Spirit of Humanity), with displaced and host communities, plus humanitarian staff through targeted educational training curricular, including climate emergency awareness. MENA, Greece, Kosovo, Bangladesh.
3. “The Ball” Project https://theball.tv/: Every Football World Cup since 2002, “The Ball” kicks off from Battersea Park in London, where the very first game of modern rules football took place in 1864. Its destination is overland to the Opening Ceremony of the Football World Cup. Each specific journey The Ball profiles a particular cause such as people with special needs or displaced persons. Along the way, it unites people within nations and across borders around a common call to action: “One Ball, One World”.
The next journey 2022/2023, to both the men’s and women’s WC’s (Qatar and on to New Zealand) will prioritise the climate emergency. We envisage that subsequent World Cup journeys will also continue with this focus.
