Ruth is an independent climate change, environment and international development professional, with a particular focus on climate resilience, adaptation planning, and climate finance readiness. She has 9 years’ experience leading on and delivering project engagements spanning public, private and civil society sectors, including technical research, advocacy, policy, programme design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Ruth currently provides research support to IIED and is an Evaluator with the BRACED Knowledge Manager, where she is helping to deliver the Annual Monitoring and Results Reporting Synthesis Report. Prior to this Ruth was a Climate Change Consultant with Ricardo Energy & Environment, where she undertook a range of projects on international climate change policy, including:
technical inputs to country INDC's to the UNFCCC;
capacity building support for the Country Level Impacts to Climate Change initiative to UNEP;
leading evidence streams for the study to support the evaluation of the EU's Adaptation Strategy;
co-authoring the 'Vulnerability, climate impacts and adaptation measures' chapter of the EU's 7th National Communication.
Prior to her consulting engagements, Ruth was Acting Climate Finance Adviser for the Commonwealth, where she designed and led a work programme focused on improving the access, use and delivery of climate finance for small and vulnerable member states. Ruth co-ordinated the work of a Commonwealth Expert Group on Climate Finance that included the delivery of their report to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2013. She also provided research and advice to senior Commonwealth officials and member states on climate finance and climate change policy, represented the Commonwealth at international conferences and led the development of a scoping and design for a Commonwealth Climate Finance Skills Hub proposal. She has actively supported and led projects in a number of countries including Barbados, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Nepal, Tanzania, and Uganda. Ruth holds an MSc in Environment and Development and a BSc in Tropical Environmental Science.
