Projects Coordinator
I started work with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in June 2013 as a Research Assistant working on Building Environmental Resilience in Afghanistan, a national programme to support ecological, social and economic sustainability in the country. I was quickly promoted for good performance and took on the Strategic Communications and Security Focal Point position which I held for one year, working in the national office in Kabul.
As of 2014, I have continued to grow and develop. My current position is Central Highlands Projects Coordinator, which covers field projects, government liaison, administrative tasks as well as public outreach and teaching. I cover two provinces, Bamyan and Daikundi Provinces.
My work with both the government of Afghanistan and local community level in the Afghan Central Highlands has helped me to see the interconnectedness of all things. UNEP is the agency within the United Nations system tasked with leading, catalyzing, connecting and supporting the protection of our natural and ecological resources. As I have watched the dwindling of those resources in my own country I am particularly excited to have a chance to join this network. As a relatively young man, I am mindful of my responsibility to my family, my home, and my country, but also to Mother Earth. I want to make a big difference in the world in which I am living.
