Shashikant Chopde has 30+ years of experience in development sector, specifically in rural and urban development, and water management. For past 20+years he has extensively worked on regional/ multi-country, national, and state/ city level programmes on CCA, DRR and urban resilience. He was nominated as the Organizing Committee member of the Sixth International Adaptation Futures (2021) Conference organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP), and to IPCC-TGICA Expert Meeting on Decision-Centered Approaches to the Use of Climate Information (2015). This aside, he has played a core role in organising an International Conference on Adaptation in India in 2006, and has facilitated several community based adaptation approaches across India and Nepal. Shashikant has provided trainings on mainstreaming DRR and CCA in development to national, state and district level governments and has published many books/ articles/ papers on related themes. His most recent/ current work include providing lead inputs to designing and developing Multi-Hazard Early Warning (MHEWS) for the state of Himachal Pradesh under World Bank funded HPSRTP project for hazards such as floods, cloudbursts, GLOFs, landslides, and snow avalanches, developing climate-resilient Disaster Management Plans of state level departments of Government of Maharashtra supported by UNDP, and providing TA to Government of Kerala on Rebuilding Kerala Initiative, supported KfW/ World Bank. He has Masters in Civil Engineering (1992) with specialization in Water Resources Management.
