Shirley Gallagher
Shirley Gallagher is a Scientist working in the field of Sustainable Development. Since completing her PhD, ‘An Investigation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in a Belfast Gaswork Site’, she has focused on environmental issues, from contaminated land, water, training and in last 10 years, energy. She is developing a strategy for the not for profit limited company without a share capital ‘Energy Community Union’ which is a trading name of the Micro Energy Generation Association (MEGA), Dr Gallagher has worked on a wide range of academic and commercial projects including data analysis, testing, calibration and software development for Building Management Systems, F-Gas Management, Photo Voltaics and Nanomaterials. Shirley developed national training packages 'upskilling for the green economy'.
She recently completed work on an a €6.5m EU H2020 funded research project IMPRESS, the design, testing and validation of a range of high-performance, low-impact concrete panels for the retrofit cladding of existing buildings. Her role as Work Package Leader involved the development of a BIM Level 2 Online Management Platform and the Monitoring and Data Analysis of Test Sites in Romania, Italy, UK and Ireland.
Shirley has served as Chair of the Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland (ESAI), and advisor to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Advisory Council , National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) and a number of local authorities and community organisations. Shirley is a Climate KIC Certified Professional and a Member of the Project Management Institute as well as a qualified ISO Assessor specialising in calibration, testing, quality, energy and health and safety.
