I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in Canada, working with the Partnership for Canada-Caribbean Community Climate Change Adaptation (ParCA). I am undertaking research in the area of community climate change adaptation, with an emphasis on the challenges and opportunities inherent in coastal communities dependent on livelihoods based on fisheries and tourism. My work includes:
· Assessing the complex and dynamic interrelationship between ecological, social and economic systems and processes in influencing current and future vulnerability, adaptive capacity and resilience to climate risks and impacts.
o Specifically, analysis of internal and external socioeconomic factors and their interaction with biophysical and climatic change factors to understand vulnerability and adaptation associated with shoreline erosion and sea level rise in coastal and small island regions.
· Building on community-based vulnerability assessment research, and engaging community stakeholders and decision-makers in participatory processes to vision, develop and evaluate coastal adaptation actions.
· Working with multiple community, institutional and academic stakeholders to investigate how successful adaptation actions can inform and guide adaptation planning, sustainable development and coastal zone management policy at local and regional scales.
Evaluating costs of climate-related impacts (market and non-market) and adaptation strategies.
· Use of diverse methodologies and integrated frameworks: vulnerability and adaptation assessments, downscaled climate and socioeconomic scenarios, PGIS, integrated cost assessments, landscape values mapping, and visualization maps.
