Freelance agronomist and agroforester
Developed and documented outstanding, low-cost solutions to direct seeding, fast growth and more effective and flexible multipurpose management of e.g. soil and water conserving contour hedges fixing nitrogen and carbon from air also on small farms in the tropics with local inputs (Google Torsten Mandal pdf). The methods and trees can also be used for firebreak, live fencing, land demarcation, lasting poles and tree to climb for coping with floods as well as fast drying fuel wood. I have as well a broad practical and theoretical background in climate change adaptation. I e.g. also have special interests in drones and more appropriate WASH solutions.
Agronomist at MSc level from University of Copenhagen (tropical crop cultivation) with additional studies at MSc or PhD level at University of Copenhagen (Soil fertility and soil and water conservation, agroforestry, African land-use, analytical and physical chemistry, applied social anthroplogy) and Swedish Agricultural (tropical agriculture 1-3).
Have since 1985 worked with research, development, capacity building and consultancies in collaboration with e.g. Care International in Rwanda, International Centre for Agroforestry Research (WAC), Kenya Forestry Research Centre, University of Copenhagen (RVAU/KVL), Ghana Education Service /AfS, Mondelez and Vi Agroforestry.
