Ph.D. Student and Founder & Executive Director
I am Willy Missack, also known by my Indigenous name Iaruel Matua, am a Ph.D. student at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. Founder and Executive Director of Learn to Serve Vanuatu, a youth-led community-based organization dedicated to fostering sustainable development. Loss and Damage negotiator for the Vanuatu government actively engages in international discussions to address climate impacts. I support community development through initiatives such as climate-proof water systems, which ensure access to clean drinking water for communities, schools, and dispensaries. To adaptation efforts, I empower communities and grassroots organizations to access climate funding. And advocates for smart agricultural practices and assists local farmers in adopting climate-resistant crops, thereby enhancing resilience in the face of climate change.
