Dr. Zakir Hussain Shaik
A Development expert with profound experience in planning, designing, implementing different development projects in India. The major arena of my work includes scaling-up of established models of ecological Agriculture by networking with 100 NGOs and SHGs during the initial take-off phase in A.P. Likewise coordinated different development programs supported by Hivos, World Bank, GIZ in collaboration with CSA and Rural Development Department (SERP) in Hyderabad, India.
I can distinguish myself unique in implementation and scaling up the successful models of sustainable agriculture in coordination with different Government agencies together with NGO partnership. Similarly my special area of expertise lies with linking peasants to local, regional and urban markets with different interventions (cooperatives and federations) within the value chain. Extensively worked on capacity building of farmers and eventually created a barefoot cadre of farmer resource farmers where majority are young farmers. They are considerably deployed while scaling up of successful models of sustainable agriculture. In addition to this my special area of focus was enhancing the farmer livelihoods through community participation.
In the similar vein, my explicit area of focus includes exploring the cause and effect relationships among successful cases related to agriculture development and make a case for further policy building and research. Similarly i attempt to share these views in various national and international platforms
Recently, I finalised my PhD at Humboldt University on the topic: Dynamics of peri-urban agricultural development and the farmers adaptive behavior within the framework urbanization and structural change related to mega-city of Hyderabad, India. Currently working as National Agriculture advisor in a BMZ and MOA collaborative project namely" Climate Change Knowledge Network for Indian Agriculture based at Delhi (www.cckn-ia.org)
