Regions4

Regions4

Regions4 is the global voice of regional governments (states, regions, provinces) before UN negotiations, European Union initiatives and global discussions in the fields of climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development. Regions4 was established in 2002 at the World Summit in Johannesburg as nrg4SD. In 2019 it became Regions4 and represents over 40 regional governments from 20 countries in 4 continents.

In the field of climate change, Regions4 developed the RegionsAdapt initiative, the first global initiative that supports the acceleration of climate adaptation by subnational governments. The RegionsAdapt initiative aims to inspire and support regional governments to take concrete action, collaborate and report on climate adaptation. Driven by the governments of Rio de Janeiro and Catalonia, RegionsAdapt was launched at COP 21 in Paris, and now encompasses more than 70 signatory regions from five continents.
