Since 2002, UN Environment has provide technical assistance to the Government of Afghanistan on environmental governance to address urgent environmental and natural resource management issues. Today, UN Environment’s Afghanistan programme is focused on building environmental resilience and sustainability. Currently, the programme provides training and mentoring to government counterparts, has established flagship demonstration projects, and provides technical assistance and advice in the fields of: environmental coordination, environmental law and policy, environmental education and awareness, community-based natural resource management, climate change adaption, protected areas, ecological disaster risk reduction and multilateral environmental agreements.
