Srinivasan Ancha
I am a Principal Climate Change Specialist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). As Climate Change Focal Point for the Southeast Asia Regional Department since 2009, I have formulated and implemented several technical assistance and investment projects on climate change adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in various sectors, including those from agriculture, forestry and land use.
I have a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, UK and 25 years of international experience in interdisciplinary research and management on environmental sustainability. I have played a leading role at the intersection of climate change science and policy, and in bringing forward the Asian perspectives on the future climate regime to international forums.
Prior to joining the ADB, I worked in Japan for 17 years as a Principal Researcher and Manager at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and as a senior researcher at Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. I also worked at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
I contributed to several global initiatives including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Global Environmental Outlook, Millennium Ecosystems Assessment, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as an author and/or reviewer. I have edited 8 books including "Climate Smart Development in Asia", "Low Carbon Transport in Asia" and “Handbook of Precision Agriculture” and authored or co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications. I am a member of the editorial boards of five scientific and policy journals. I have presented his work at more than 150 international events.
I received many awards and honours including a gold medal and letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister of India, and the Eisaku Sato Memorial Foundation Prize of the United Nations University. I was listed in Marquis “Who’s Who in the World” and “Who’s Who in Science and Technology” since 1999. I chaired several international events and organized more than 50 workshops on approaches to address climate change and environmental sustainability.
