Chikondi is currently working for Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) where she is involved in coordinating gender initiatives and mainstreamed issues for FUM and making policies for the organization and its partners on issues of gender, women empowerment and governance. Before joining FUM, she was involved in research work at Bunda College of Agriculture that involved empowering women farmers; Previously as Eco-health research Assistant at Bunda College which a four-year pilot project in Nkhota-kota, funded by IDRC Canada. As the a research assistant, Chikondi’s responsibility includes an array of activities that have cross cutting thematic areas in Climate Change, Food Security, Environmental quality, nutrition and adequate care. It was Chikondi’s responsibility was to ensure that management and running of the organization of the first phase of the project was taking place focusing more on workshop organizations, data collection, data entry, data analysis and data interpretation.
Just after finishing her Bsc, Chikondi started working for Centre for Community Organization and Development as a research consultant in the water and sanitation department under the Ecological Sanitation Project. In this project Chikondi was involved in analysis of nutrients in ecological sanitation manure and was also involved in livelihoods and skills, and community mobilization, capacity building.
