A/Professor Applied Physics
My research and teaching has mostly been involved in the application of Earth Observation techniques to Meteorology & Climatology and, therefore, to Climate Change and Climate Change Adaptation. I am/have been involved in the Earth Observation Missions:
SMOS, EarthCARE, Sentinel-3, and PARIS In-Orbit-Demonstrator, from ESA
GERB and EPS-MetOp from EUMETSAT
CERES and SMAP from NASA
These missions try to improve estimations of crucial climate model parameters (soil moisture, sea surface salinity, clouds, aerosols, …) and reduce their incertitude. We develop satellite validation methodologies by producing independent ground reference values at our Valencia & Alacant Anchor Stations validation sites.
As an innovative application of the experience and expertise acquired from the above involvements, I am the Leader of the RESEWAM-O - Remote Sensing for Water Management Optimization EIP (European Innovation Partnership) Water Action Group (AG132) <http://www.eip-water.eu/introducing-resewam-o>
Strongly motivated for Education, Outreach and Capacity Building, precisely on Earth Observation and Climate Change. I have organised/co-organised international Capacity Building Courses (Earth Observation Understanding of the Water Cycle, Fortaleza, Brazil 2010; Remote Sensing of the Global Water Circulation to Climate Change,Beijing, China, 2012, Remote Sensing & Climate Change, Tver, Russian Federation, 2014) in the framework of COSPAR (Committee on Space Research) where I am currently Chair of Sub-Commission A3 on Land Processes and Morphology and Vice-Chair of Capacity Building Panel Fellowship Programme.
