Water Technical Advisor
I am Kamal Mohamed Farah, I hold a BSc degree on Development Studies at University of Derby and master’s degree (MSc) in Water and Environmental Management at Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC), Loughborough University, UK.
I have more than 25 years’ experience working in the development sector. My contextual and theoretical understanding of poverty and its correlation to climate change impact and the need for community-based adaptation had given me the courage to act as one of the climate change impact adaptation champions in Somalia/Somaliland.
In my recent work experience, I provided technical expertise and guidance to the Somalia/Somaliland government for the Development of National hydrological drought preparedness plan, the development of national water resources and the environmental management investment plan, including the water infrastructure development for the resilient program in Somaliland. I was also instrumental for the development of the Somali National Climate Outlook guide for the federal government of Somalia.
I was also Water Technical Advisor to CARE International in Somalia and provide a technical support to several projects including the Weather and Climate information (WISER) project for Somalia, the WISER aims to increase the reach, understanding, interpretation, use and uptake of weather and climate information to enhance community preparations and adaptation on climate change impact.
I am now Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) Technical Advisor for the Somali Resilient program (SomRep) technical unit.
