Carbon Sinks Mitigation
- My role can be summarized as providing expert inputs to research, policy, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of climate change response measures in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector as guided by domestic and international policy imperatives.
- Taking into consideration the peculiarity of the AFOLU sector and heterogeneity of South African ecosystems, design a research agenda with specific focus to identify principal climate change mitigation and adaptation opportunities to support a just transition to low carbon economy and climate resilient society while considering the socioeconomic status of the country.
- Recognizing that climate change response is cross sectorial and no one department can deliver in
isolation, and so finding ways to strengthen collaborations and partnerships through formalising institutional arrangements of different role players including, academics, NGOs, sector departments and communities, mainstream climate change agenda in the AFOLU sector to scale up existing efforts and initiate new ones.
- My work experience has also included conservation of threatened species and ecosystems and managing GIS databases
