I am currently an director at Urban Earth, focusing on sustainable development research and program management in South Africa. I previously headed up the eThekwini Municipal Energy Office in the city of Durban. The Energy Office is broadly responsible for climate change mitigation in the city and covers areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and low carbon development. I was at the Municipality for over 4 years and was previously a consultant for 8 years working for local government in KwaZulu-Natal. During this time I managed various programs and projects focusing on sustainable local economic development. I graduated with a Masters from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2002 after completing his BSc Hons at the University of Cape Town. My primary field of interest is the interface between the economy and the environment, with increasing emphasis on promoting alternatives to carbon intensive consumption patterns.
