Tracey Coates

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Geology at Kingston University. Previously based in the Flood Hazard Research Centre at Middlesex University my PhD - ‘The Conscious Community: Belonging, identities and networks in local communities’ response to flooding’ - connects the conceptual issues of locality and community to the experiences of those subject to flooding and the practicalities of Flood Risk Management policy to produce theoretically informed yet practical research. I continue to carry out qualitative research which investigates the social aspects of hazards, focusing in particular but not exclusively on flooding in the UK. Research projects include the potential for spatial planning to promote resilience to flooding and erosion in Europe and community resilience in emergency response and recovery situations in the UK.
