EAGA
The Eastern Alliance for Greenhouse Action (EAGA) is a formal collaboration of seven Councils in Melbourne’s east, working together on regional programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and facilitate regional adaptation. EAGA has recently been awarded a grant through the Victorian Adaptation Sustainability Partnership to develop a Climate Change Adaptation Roadmap for decision makers in Melbourne’s east. The goals of the project are to ensure that climate change risk management and adaptation actions are mainstreamed across all council operations and that regional decision makers have the capacity to capture the opportunities arising from adaptation. Importantly, the project will deliver a clear adaptation roadmap that will harmonise regional planning, create economies of scale in response actions and enable sharing and pooling of resources. The project will involve the delivery of a regional climate change risk assessment and determine the cross municipality adaptation response actions for integration into the existing plans and strategies of each member Council. EAGA has recently employed a dedicated Climate Change Adaption Officer to facilitate the project’s delivery.
