Public participation

This report, jointly prepared by Climate Outreach and the NAP Global Network, provides an introduction to public engagement on climate change adaptation. It makes recommendations for how to make public engagement with climate adaptation inclusive and effective, and how to make links to the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) agenda under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.

How do you input effective participatory methods? There is a general suite of methodologies and tools that can be combined and applied in a situation-specific manner with some being more participatory than others.

Identification of stakeholders, and developing a plan for their participation throughout the screening process will be based on sound stakeholder analysis.

What are participatory processes? The main purpose, and the power, of any participatory approach, is reflection on the material generated to identify what has real meaning, and thus to ensure that the information that comes out of discussions results in real action.
