Resilient Coast Santa Cruz: Cross-sector collaboration for long-term resilience
Learn about the Resilient Coast Santa Cruz (Resilient Coast) initiative which aims to address coastal adaptation for the long-term resilience of the City of Santa Cruz's coastline. Informed by scientific work and community vision, Resilient Coast utilizes an adaptation pathways approach supported by immersive and interactive tools, such as virtual reality used to facilitate community engagement.
Project Coastbusters Biogenic reefs concept
Learn about the public-private 'Coastbusters' consortium which aims to study and translate desired coastal protection functionality into designs that make use of the capability of ecosystem engineering species. In other words, does ecosystem creation and the technical design of nature-based solutions provide a more sustainable and cost-effective management approach to conventional coastal engineering?
The Contribution of Marine Protected Areas to Climate Change Adaptation: State of the Evidence and Policy Recommendations
Learn about how Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) can effectively contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, and understand why it is crucial that they are included in policy discussion, in light of COP27 and COP15.
Results and impacts of the UCSC Coastal Resilience Lab – Valuing risk reduction services provided by coastal ecosystems
In this case study the Coastal Resilience Research Lab at UCSC informs the case for the protective value of nature as a cost effective strategy to help reduce risk to people and property.
The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre
Learn about the Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (Aachen, Bangkok, Chennai, Dresden - ABCD Centre) which aims to address the pressing issue of humanity’s adaptation to the consequences of climate change, with a special focus on water, and facilitate a global dialogue between leading scientific institutions.
The Role of Climate Data in the Planning Processes in Germany for Bridges, Hydropower Dams and Coastal Protection/Dyke Construction
This report aims to give an overview of the planning processes in Germany for bridges, hydropower dams and coastal protection. An in depth analysis of when and how climate data influences this process, will take place. Diagrams and examples will aid this process in defining key entry points for climate data.
The Relationship between Climate Change Adaptation & Coastal Protection Planning in the Mekong Delta: the Role of Climate Services
The Decision Support Tool (DST) for the Coastal Protection for the Mekong Delta (CPMD) provides an analysis of the current geographical, geological and hydrological situation along the Mekong Delta’s coastline.
Building with Nature in Indonesia – reaching scale for coastal resilience
Northern Java’s deltaic shorelines suffer from land subsidence and severe erosion, in some places more than three kilometers of land has already been taken by the sea. The "Building with Nature" approach combines nature based solutions, such as mangrove restoration, with hard-engineering techniques to restrore mangrove coastlines that reduce flood risk, erosion and saline intrusion and may be able to adapt to sea level rise.
